The British heavyweight repeated his much-discussed comments about being prepared to “kill” Jake Paul during a press event in Miami on Wednesday.

The remarks were originally stated on Tuesday when Joshua was asked if he would hold back against the social media star, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

Saturday's fight against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has drawn criticism over safety concerns and the size difference between the two athletes.

Tyson Fury Calls AJ a “Classless Loser”

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury branded Anthony Joshua a “classless loser” for his inflammatory comments.

But Joshua, explained his mindset: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I'm sure many people don't comprehend it but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. The outcome, happens - provided that my hand is held high, that's what's crucial, respectfully.”

He added, “That's just the psychology we have to have as boxers. I'm unsure if other boxers think that way. Maybe they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a perilous thing. Anything can happen.”

“You hope your opponent leaves the ring safely, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed aware you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Paul's Incendiary Retort

Paul, a massive outsider in the heavyweight contest as a natural cruiserweight, was no less combative in his reply.

“This is a modern day combat sport,” he stated. “I'm ready. I want his strongest punches. I want there to be zero excuses when it's all over. We should kill each other.”

AJ will face Paul, in his twenties, at Miami's arena in a fight many regard as a significant mismatch, with some arguing it should have been sanctioned as an exhibition bout.

The professional contest will be contested over eight 3-minute stanzas using standard 10oz gloves, with a stipulated maximum weight for Joshua.

Joshua Claims He Was “Called In to Save” The Sport

Despite the vulgar terminology used, Joshua claimed he has been “brought in to rescue” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to stop the Jake Paul show and I understand it and that's why I have to carry the sport on my back in this fight,” he added.

The event also had lighter moments, with AJ smiling as Paul sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The face-off passed peacefully, with the underdog adopting a unusual pose before Joshua stayed composed and lightly touched Paul's chain.

Both Fighters Deny Pre-Arranged Allegations

The peculiar aspect of this fight has led to speculation about its authenticity, including suggestions that Joshua may be restricted from knocking Paul out.

“There are no clauses in the agreement, Joshua can confirm it. We're going to battle,” Jake Paul insisted.

Joshua, wearing a valuable chain, humorously added, “The only thing in the agreement that got my attention was the purse.”

Paul has stated on his platforms that the total purse will be exceptionally high.

Jake Paul first gained fame as an digital influencer, amassing a massive online audience.

He has never fought anyone of the former champion's skill level but maintained that his opponent would not underestimate him.

“It's a wise move on his part,” he said. “This could potentially be, and will be, the largest defeat of his career.”

A victory for Paul would be perhaps the most shocking upset in the sport's history.

It would undoubtedly leave an permanent mark on Joshua's legacy, but the fighter said it would not spell the end.

“I'd come back again, shake it off,” he remarked. “I'll be headlining again in a year or two. It is what it is. I'm a player in the game.”
